Vision
IMPULS exists to encourage young people to love Jesus and challenge them to be the church.
In Impuls it is our intentional goal to see communities that function in a biblical manner. What do we mean with this? We try to express this through five symbols. Together these symbols cover all important aspects of a functioning biblical community. The point is not to view these separately, neither to focus a single symbol. When considered together, these symbols characterize the life we wish to live together.
WORSHIP – a deepening relationship with God.
Essential to the life of discipleship is that Jesus be the most important person in the disciple’s life. The Bible tells us how Jesus wishes to be in a personal relationship with each and every one of us. Not a distant or superficial relationship, but a relationship between hearts. God’s love is perfect and unconditional and is demonstrated in his sending Jesus to redeem us. We are loved for what we are, not for what we do. Nothing can alter this fact. God’s heart beats for us and He calls us to love Him in return. We love because He loved first (1 John 4,19). We have all received the ability to love, but our ways of expressing it vary. God wishes that all aspects of our lives shall reflect our love for Him, thus deepening the heart relationship.
COMMUNITY – belonging to each other.
Life in the greater story –God's story- is not to be lived separately. When we decide to become disciples, we become part of a greater family. God has said that the word that describes Him the best is Father. He is a perfect father that we can rely on and count on, and He will help us live the greater story every day. As Christians we are united, sisters and brothers, in a world wide family. Even if our previous experiences of family life are imperfect, we can find a new fellowship in God’s family, a place of safety, openness, honesty and truth.
GROWTH – not standing still.
The discipleship life must be learned and then practiced. It requires time, focus and commitment. In the same way that you will not become a great football player unless you practice, you will not grow as a disciple without practice. Jesus spent three years with twelve people to show them how to live as disciples. We have to constantly take new steps of faith towards God, in order to experience more who He is and what he can do. This strengthens our faith so we can keep taking more steps. Thus we grow.
SERVICE – acting so that people will listen.
Living as part of a greater story means putting others before oneself. Fulfilling my own needs is no longer the most important thing in my life. I am willing to let go of some of my privileges and my rights so that others can experience God's love through me. Acts speak so much louder than words. Jesus showed us that no love is greater than laying down one's life for one's friends. The Bible teaches us that God gives all believers spiritual gifts, with which we can build each other up. Using and developing our gifts to serve others can be very exciting.
EVANGELISING - reaching out.
God's story is the story of salvation. Discipleship living means living out the mission Jesus gave us. Go make disciples of all peoples. Nothing is more important than this. The meaning of life is not comfort, but living in a way that compel others to believe.
